At Heart to Song we begin the process of creating a one-of-a-kind ‘heartbeat song’ by scheduling a convenient time for staff to visit you or your loved one at home.

A specialized, non-invasive stethoscope is used to obtain the desired heartbeat in less than a minute. Heartbeat recordings of people in all stages of life, as well as pets (only cats and dogs at this time), may be recorded. Minor editing is then made to the recording (only to improve the recording’s clarity and extend the duration).

Staff will then guide you and your loved one(s) through a therapeutic songwriting intervention (clients do not need any prior instrumental or singing experience to participate in these interventions). During this intervention, we will assist you in creating an original, or utilizing a favorite pre-recorded, song. Staff will then produce the song to incorporate the heartbeat recording, resulting in the final ‘heartbeat song’.

Once this process is complete, you can expect the final song to be sent via email within one-two weeks. (Staff will prioritize end of life situations.)

The process of obtaining a heartbeat recording (HBR) and transforming it into a heartbeat song is a music therapy technique utilized by Board Certified Music Therapists (MT-BC’s) within a therapeutic setting. This therapeutic technique is called Amplified Cardiopulmonary Recordings (ACRP). Heartbeat songs are the result of therapeutic experiences between participants and a MT-BC.

Heart to Song staff are here to support you via the therapeutic use of this intervention and/or our other services. Below are examples of completed heartbeat songs:

disclaimer: Heart to song staff is not permitted to discuss the quality of a heartbeat, diagnose or treat conditions pertaining to one's heart.

Heartbeat Song #1

This recording features a mother’s heartbeat. This mother wanted a song that could be utilized to comfort and sooth her baby with her favorite lullaby, You Are My Sunshine.

Heartbeat Song #2

This recording features a dog’s heartbeat. This song was produced as a bereavement gift for an individual anticipating the passing of a treasured pet.
